Royal Escape Rewards
Royal Escape Prizegiving
Once again we are awarding all the trophies and prizes to sailors in Fécamp on the Saturday after the race whilst all the boats are still in France. We want everybody to play a part in the Royal Escape celebrations and this move to France from the previous black tie do at SYC proved a big hit in 2009 so will be repeated in 2010.
From 16.00 in the upstairs reception room of Les Terras Neuvas Restaurant will be welcoming guests including the Mayor and other Fécamp VIP’s where Guillame Lenoir and his team will be serving Champagne and Benedictine cocktails and canapés. With the huge interest being shown in the 2010 race we are likely to be a victim of our own success by having to restrict the number of tickets to this free event (the venue has a limit on numbers allowed and we are having trouble finding a larger alternative venue in Fécamp).
Class Winners Flags
Our local solicitors and long term Royal Escape supporters Fitzhugh Gates have again stepped up to the plate sponsoring the class winners flags - there are only a handful of these superb and very large trophies given out each year which are flown with real pride. Our thanks go to Pat Hill and her partners.
Retention Prizes
Most of the Royal Escape Trophies are large, silver and worry our insurance company, which is why they live at the Sussex Yacht Club. We give them an annual outing to Fécamp where the winners can cuddle them and take a photo, but they do have to go home with the Club. If you are a winner you get to keep a retention prize in the form of a cut glass trophy.
In 2009 Admiral Tony and Adele Boysons kindly offered to support the Royal Escape by donating these Class Winner Retention Trophies, so special thanks again the couple who have probably done more than anyone else in fostering close links between Fécamp and Sussex Sailors and were responsible for organising the first seven Royal Escapes and has sailed many more.
Special Prizes
The Royal Escape Race is indebted to Southern Masts & Rigging Limited of Brighton Marina who have provided a large number of valuable prizes for winners in addition to the trophies listed below. Warm thanks goes to Mike and George of SMR for all their efforts garnering support from so many marine suppliers as well as arranging the Ocean Safety demonstration before the race briefing.
New divisions for 2010
We are still working on the trophies for the shorthanded and solo, charter and Escape class. As soon as we've worked out the details we'll post here. There will also be a new Sleeper Trophy from Jonty Layfield and his family designed to encourage youth teams as well.
